Okay, so — I wasn’t planning to make these full garden publications a regular thing.
(unless you all want it of course, leave a comment)
I was just out in the backyard, stretching my legs.
It’s wet out today, so I figured I’d take a few pictures.
Well… I got carried away.
Then I found a bee.
And I followed it.
For way too long.
Now I’m wet. And cold.
So… yeah.
Enjoy.
I started out just taking a few pictures of whatever flowers were still in bloom.
The rain was light — more of a drizzle — just enough to leave your clothes damp.
I only meant to grab a few shots for a Notes drop...
But I just kept snapping.
I noticed we still had some of the plant tags around, so I figured I’d try to get a little artsy.
Now I’m fully kneeling in the dirt.
Hands muddy from wiping off the tags.
And yep — it’s still raining.
These next pictures almost killed me.
These two flowers are up on the rock wall, tucked behind a mess of random weeds.
My wife had tossed some wildflower seeds up there, hoping a few would take.
I think that’s what these are… not totally sure.
She seemed pretty pleased about them though.
Anyway — I’m in Crocs at this point, and I genuinely thought I was about to slide down that rock wall like Humpty Dumpty holding a phone for fake internet points.
And all the king’s servants and all the king’s men
wouldn’t be able to put my dignity back together again.
I made it down the ledge in one piece.
Then I realized I’d only taken pictures up on the top tier — so I wandered around the fire pit and down near the driveway to keep chasing color.
Enter the bee.
I heard the buzz and got curious — started scanning for where he was.
He began in this rose bush, darted around for a bit, then zipped over to another one like he had somewhere to be.
I must’ve followed this bee around the bush for a solid 15 minutes — just snapping pictures like a monkey with a mission.
At one point I was standing on a ledge by the rock wall, trying to get the right angle.
It’s still raining.
I’m still in wet Crocs.
This might be how I go…
Chasing Instagram points over a bee for Substack.
Not ideal.
But… you know. Internet points, right?
📷🤷♂️🐝
He eventually flew off — too fast to follow.
Now I’m really wet.
Not soaked, just… that uncomfortable kind of damp you feel in your sleeves.
And instead of changing clothes, I sat down and started writing this.
I guess we’re all just trying to make honey in the rain.
